Jason is doing important work for bitcoin: you can read my endorsement on his book cover. Proud we have him as a bitcoiner. I'm also proud of BM for publishing a piece so sharply critical of its own CEO. I'm also proud of the vast majority of replies in this thread, which are supportive of Jason even while disagreeing vehemently with his politics. If bitcoin can be a space where we can have REAL political disagreement--no pulled punches, no fake niceness--but at the same time, we treat each other as fellow human beings, worthy of respect, responsive to reason, and aimed at a common good... then we will have carved a truly special place in American discourse. I think we are doing pretty well at that, under the circumstances. (The internet is always going to contain elements of cruelty and stupidity. This is where STOICISM comes in.)

As for Jason's article, I share the same concerns and they were very forcefully put in his piece. Our survey found a rightward shift in bitcoin ownership and attitudes, as well as a drop in bitcoin sentiment on the left, and not coincidentally, among women. This is, I'm pretty sure, a price we are paying for aligning the two orange brands. Bitcoin is still mostly centrist. But this trend could halt, or reverse, or it could worsen, as Jason foresees. I don't know which way it'll go. On the other hand, the election had obvious upsides for bitcoin-related businesses. Reaching out to Donald Trump was a bold and skillful gambit that will be long debated by critics, but which saved an industry facing an existential threat.
