The Poblano Pepper #17

🌿 This cheerful pep originated in the Mexican state of Puebla and were a staple in the diet of the Aztecs. The name "poblano" comes from the people of Puebla, who refer to themselves as "poblanos". They were used as early as 700 AD and were a secret ingredient in feasts. 🫑 🌿 This pepper is not considered a hot or spicy pepper, though they do have a small amount of heat. They measure between 1,000 - 2,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) on the Scoville Scale. With just a bit of heat to them, you can use a small bell pepper or similar sized sweet pepper for general cooking and for stuffing, though you won't get the same flavor. 😋 🌿FRESH FACTS: “It’s said that mole was born in the 17th-century by a group of Spanish nuns who were trying to make a last-minute meal for a visiting archbishop,” an article on Komos Knows explains. “Legend says the nuns threw together whatever was in their pantry; a quick-witted, off-the-cuff concoction that included chiles, warm spices, seeds, nuts, chocolate and several-days-old bread (which the nuns apparently served over turkey). Luckily for us, the archbishop was pleased — and mole poblano was born.” 📜
