UNFORTUNATELY, "religion" means "any attempt at a unified explanation of reality." So "the spirits did it" is a religion. Christianity is a religion. "Secularism" (scientific materialism) is a religion. All of these unified worldviews have their own axioms and metaphysics. And the worst metaphysics is the kind that denies that it is metaphysics. "No way bro! I'm not just stating this belief because it patches the gaps in my understanding, bro! We totally looked through a microscope and a scientist wrote it down bro! So the role of my own mind in perceiving it doesn't exist bro!" Christianity in its current form (let everyone hurt you so that you look like a sweetie pie) is failing. What we need is a way to patch it without appearing to.
