Introducing: Native Multicast Support on @DoubleZero
The most efficient data transport method for distributed systems.
Messaging will never be the same. Here's why…
If you’ve run validators on @Solana, or any high-performance chain, you know the real bottleneck isn’t compute.
It’s communication.
To create blocks and process transactions, validators must first reach consensus, which requires broadcasting data to all other validators in the network.
Today, most blockchains rely on unicast: each validator sends the same packet to every peer, over and over — wasting bandwidth and increasing latency.
It doesn’t scale.
So we built something that does.
Today, we’re launching native multicast support for distributed systems, powered by @DoubleZero.
How it works:
– Send once
– Replicate in-network
– Deliver only to subscribers
– Route on deterministic fiber paths

Multicast unlocks:
– Faster block propagation
– Lower-latency consensus sync
– Oracle feeds without the lag
– Real-time telemetry
– Geography-aware routing
– Hardware-level packet handling
Built for distributed systems that need to move fast.
This isn’t new.
High-frequency trading firms have used this model for years.
It’s long been the most efficient way to deliver messages, but until now it wasn’t available to decentralized systems.
By bringing group configuration and permissions fully on-chain, we're giving developers a new building block for secure, high-performance data delivery.
This testnet release puts public blockchains on equal footing with TradFi infrastructure for the first time.
Multicast data transmission is one of the most powerful tools offered by @DoubleZero.
Now, for the first time, validators can propagate data in milliseconds with precision, efficiency – finally realizing the full benefits of high-performance infrastructure.

Some of the best teams in the @Solana ecosystem are currently working to integrate multicast into validator and consensus software.
@DoubleZero testnet users can now begin experimenting with sending and receiving multicast traffic in live environments in the v0.2.2 client.
Broader network-wide testing will follow in the coming months.
Curious how it works under the hood?

Multicast is truly a step-function change in how data moves within distributed systems.

Multicast doesn't need to be a dark art. It is used extensively in every major fintech shop because it's the right tech for the job. Today we're announcing that @doublezero is bringing multicast to distributed systems with on-chain provisioning. We're excited to work with developers to integrate this capability into their software!
