Being a founder, I know I'm biased, but Carlyle’s “Great Man Theory” seems pretty spot on, tho maybe incomplete: Individuals matter a lot when systems are young, broken, or in crisis. Structure sets the menu; people choose (+ sometimes redefine) the future.
