I just read an interesting study on an attempt to treat long COVID—here called "post-COVID-syndrome" (PCS). Before infection, people reported high functioning. With long COVID, they reported poor functioning. Treating these people with SSRIs saw them return part-way to normal.
Across the board, SSRI treatment was associated with large reductions in symptoms related to long COVID.
We don't have a control group, so these results are not definitive just yet, but they are worth thinking about. The authors proposed that they supported a role of tryptophan depletion in long COVID. Maybe, but SSRIs help with plenty of psychosomatic conditions, too.

There's been a long COVID-related rise in self-reported disability. Notice how the rise starting in mid-2020 mostly has to do with an increase in difficulty remembering things? That's the brain fog symptom everyone became aware of.
