I'm probably late to this discourse, but Eddington is one of the most bizarre movies I've ever watched. The first third is unbearable, the second third starts to redeem it into a decent film, and the finale is just completely inexplicable and baffling.
Spoilers, I guess: The first third is intensely cringe and uncomfortable, every character except the black deputy is awful and stupid and I hated all of them. I can't stand cringe politics characters, believe it or not. But then the middle portion, after the sheriff snaps and kills the mayor, it starts to get good. I'm thinking, yeah, this is why I had to sit through the nonsense, we're going to get a cat-and-mouse tension of "does he get away with it". I'm starting to see where it's going, it's a story about the descent into conspiratorial thinking. And then in the end THE CONSPIRACY WAS ACTUALLY REAL AND THERE ARE MASKED ANTIFA GOONS HUNTING HIM DOWN??? Or maybe it's corporate goons, it's never actually explained at all. It goes from an explicable movie to just... Rambo but stupid? What in the actual fuck?
