As someone who has spent much of the last few years spending 30+ hours a week talking to AIs. It definitely changes the way you think. I wouldn’t say default is smarter.

It’s subtle. But you definitely get used to handing off some of your cognitive processing to AIs. The sycophancy thing is real they do not give critical feedback at all. It both makes you more confident at formulating ideas that you might normally shelve and makes bad ideas sound good. For months I lost all motivation to write. What’s the point when this magic box can produce thousands of words of slop, per second. But I’m the best at programming I’ve ever been in my life. I can now produce simulated mathematical models of my ideas within hours. I have researched more broadly than I have ever done in my life, and I am a life long researcher. I’ve always been a generalist, but now I can radically generalise across vastly different topics. It does amplify human intelligence, for some. For many it will make them go insane and lazy.
