Our brave ICE law enforcement are now facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they risk their lives to arrest the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens. These acts of violence are fueled by sanctuary politicians rhetoric vilifying our law enforcement. We will not and have not let this violence stop us or slow us down.

Illegal aliens drinking, driving, and killing American citizens happens far more often than the media wants you to believe. On August 3, Roberto Romero-Hernandez — a criminal illegal alien from Mexico — was driving drunk and without a license when he slammed into 59-year-old Rickey G. Maddox of Alexandria, Louisiana. Maddox was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threating injuries and was later pronounced dead. The senseless tragedy should have never happened because Romero-Hernandez should have never been in our country.

ICE does not “disappear” people. This is a ridiculous lie that the media is peddling to demonize ICE law enforcement. Once an alien is transferred to ICE custody, the agency makes a custody determination based on bed space and ensures their presence for immigration proceedings or removal from the United States. Despite a historic number of injunctions, DHS is working rapidly overtime to remove these aliens from detentions centers to their final destination—home. Additionally, illegal aliens in detention have opportunities to communicate with their family members and lawyers. The appropriate process due to an illegal alien with final deportation orders is removal, plain and simple. That said, DHS has a stringent law enforcement assessment in place that abides by due process under the U.S. Constitution. Why does the media continue to fall for the sob stories of illegal aliens in detention and villainize ICE law enforcement?

This is deeply unserious. The Members were not trapped and were free to leave whenever they would like, in fact the BOP, which manages this facility, had to close the gates to prevent the media from trespassing. Here are the facts: These members did not follow proper protocol and schedule their visit. Instead they brought a gaggle of media to drive clicks and fundraising emails. As ICE law enforcement have seen a surge in assaults, disruptions, and obstructions to enforcement — including by Member of Congress themselves — any requests to tour processing centers and field offices must be approved by the Secretary of Homeland Security. These requests must be part of legitimate congressional oversight activities. ICE officers have seen an 830% surge in assaults. Visits to detention facilities, requests should be made with sufficient time to prevent interference with the President’s Article II authority to oversee executive department functions—a week is sufficient to ensure no intrusion on the President’s constitutional authority. To protect the President’s Article II authority, any request to shorten that time must be approved by the Secretary.

Franklin Gerardo Arce is a Norteños gang member, has a criminal history that includes domestic violence and public disorder. Shame on Newsweek for trying to glorify this violent criminal. During his arrest, Arce attempted to evade arrest and made graphic threats of violence against law enforcement and their families, underscoring the serious threat he poses to public safety. The operation was conducted professionally, and the minimal force used to redirect an individual interfering with the arrest was both appropriate and necessary to ensure the safety of all involved. Arce remains in ICE custody pending further proceedings.
