Miran’s nomination underscores the Trump administration’s objections to Fed policy and highlights how deep those disagreements now run—and how they could push the central bank farther along a shift where monetary policy decisions fall along party lines

Last month, Miran outlined on X how his concerns about the Fed being too dovish in 2024 by cutting rates with inflation above the central bank's target were no longer valid in 2025, despite some inflation stickiness and a lower Fed rate, given Trump's policies.

Among their proposals: make governors removable by the president for any reason and impose a four-year ban on Fed officials from serving in an executive branch office.
