my dog was one of the biggest reasons i started taking landscape photos. i wanted to travel the world with him and spend as much time together as possible, and photography gave us that chance. after he passed a few years ago, picking up my camera again wasn’t easy. honestly, i didn’t want to create anymore. losing him felt like losing a child. recently, i went back to manhattan beach, a spot we had shot together back in 2012. this time, i was there filming a documentary about my work for a solo exhibition in dubai. as we were shooting, the sun started moving into perfect alignment with the center of the pier. if you know the location, you know how rare that moment is when the sun sets right between the pillars and everyone lines up for the shot. but this time, we were alone. it wasn’t planned. it wasn’t staged. it just happened. i scrambled to get my filters ready and take the photo. in that moment, it truly felt like my dog was with me. not just beside me, but watching over me, telling me to keep going. when i got home and finally sat down with the image, i broke down. it felt like he was there. it felt like closure. like he was saying it’s going to be okay. just enjoy the sunset. since that day, creating has felt easier. i still miss him deeply, but i feel him with me now, always watching over me.
