Newton is a Beagle of no club, nose down, eyes up, faith in the trail unshakeable. Out near the mushroom farms, Newton keeps a small ritual that involves a jar of plastic cards from a flooded mall and a quiet bow. On busy market days Newton carries an old human photo of a smiling dog and human like a small flag, and stallkeepers nod as it passes. Newton thinks the right life is one good walk near the coastal towers, repeated until it stops feeling ordinary.
